Rain Before Your Party? What to Know About Bounce Houses on a Wet Yard in San Antonio

Happy Halloween from The LittleHero Jumpers Team! We hope your weekend is full of costumes, candy and kids having a blast.

Short answer: A damp lawn is usually fine. Standing water, mud, or soft ground that won’t hold a stake is not. Our trained Party Hero staff make the setup call, and you can make the call too on whether to go ahead. If you’re not sure, send us pictures and videos of your yard and our team will take a look. We also reschedule for weather-related cancellations at no extra cost with 48 hours’ notice. Contact us on the hero line at 210-255-9070 before party day.

Why this matters this week

Forecasters expect a wetter stretch in San Antonio the week of October 26, 2026, with the best rain chances Thursday into Friday from leftover Pacific tropical moisture, then rain chances winding down for Halloween on Saturday (KSAT, Oct 26, 2026; San Antonio Express-News). That means a lot of Halloween and fall birthday parties could have dry skies but a soggy backyard. Forecasts change, so check again the day before. The clocks also fall back on November 1, so see our guide to early sunset party times.

Damp, wet, or too wet? A quick yard check

Do this the evening before and again the morning of your party.

  1. Walk the spot. If your shoes sink in or water squishes up, it’s too soft right now.
  2. Look for puddles. Any standing water in the setup area is a no until it drains.
  3. Push a screwdriver in. It should go in firmly and stay upright. If it slides in with no effort or wobbles, stakes may not hold.
  4. Check for mud. Bare dirt patches that turned to mud are a problem; damp grass with dew is normal.
  5. Look up and around. Low branches that sagged with rain, downed limbs, and debris need to be cleared.

Why the ground matters

Outdoor inflatables are anchored with stakes in the ground. Soft, waterlogged soil can let stakes pull loose, and that’s a safety issue, especially if the wind picks up. A wet surface inside the bounce house is also slippery, so a dry bounce house (not a water slide) should not be used while it’s wet inside.

Frequently asked questions

Can you set up a bounce house on wet grass?

Usually, if it’s just damp. Standing water, mud, or ground too soft to hold a stake is not safe. Our trained Party Hero staff make the setup call, and you can make the call too. If you’re unsure, send us pictures and videos of your yard and our team will take a look.

It rained the day before my party. Should I cancel?

Not automatically. Check your yard the evening before using the steps above, then contact us. We reschedule for weather-related cancellations at no extra cost with 48 hours’ notice.

What happens if it rains during my party?

Get everyone off the inflatable and wait for the rain to pass. Keep the blower and cords out of the wet, and dry the inside before anyone jumps again.

Can you put the bounce house on concrete or the driveway instead?

Yes, we set up on concrete or a driveway as well as grass. Tell us which surface you have when you contact us.

Do you use ground tarps?

Yes. We use ground tarps, especially on wet units. For dry units, it depends on the ground.

Where does the blower go when it’s raining?

The blower has to be placed inside or under a patio, or somewhere else that won’t get wet.

Can kids use a bounce house that’s wet inside?

No. A dry bounce house gets slippery when it’s wet. Only water slides and water units are made to be used wet.

Is it rain or wind that cancels a bounce house?

Both can. Lightning, heavy rain and strong wind are the big ones. If you’re unsure, contact us on the hero line.
